There are flows of energy within the body that relate not only to the muscles but to every tissue and organ that go to make the body a living, feeling being.  Kinesiology uses gentle non-invasive muscle testing to supply information via nerve pathways and the meridian system of the brain and body to identify imbalances in the body’s structural, chemical, emotional or energetic pathways and to establish the body’s priority healing needs. 

How does Kinesiology work?

Kinesiology does not diagnose or prescribe, but looks beyond the symptoms to the initial cause of imbalance.  The gentle, non-invasive interactive process helps you to connect with your body’s own wisdom.  This enables you to identify factors that block the natural healing process and correct underlying causes of imbalance.  It also assists you to identify stresses or emotions held at a very deep level which prevent you from achieving your goals, or which manifest as unexplained stress, self-sabotaging behaviours, destructive beliefs, phobias, pain and ultimately, many physical problems.

How does Kinesiology change things?

Corrections used are peaceful and relaxing.  They may include holding acupressure points, Neurolymphatic or neurovascular reflex points, meridian balancing, chakra balancing, muscle correction techniques, emotional stress release, emotional freedom techniques, nutritional support, counselling, flower essences, sound, light or colour therapy, time-tracking to find the source of the stress, affirmations or visualisations.
Are there different types of Kinesiology?

There are many different types of Kinesiology practiced, and many specialities within the field of Kinesiology.  Every Kinesiology practitioner works in a different way and their knowledge covers a broad range of topics.  Many practitioners specialise in a field of work that is particularly meaningful for them, such as emotional health, physical health, goal achievement, nutrition, fertility, structure, sports performance enhancement, children, learning difficulties, just to name a few.

Just a few types of Kinesiology:

Applied Kinesiology muscle testing is used by some Chiropractors to find physical imbalances in the structure of the body and where there are error messages in the Central Nervous System.  Optimal nervous system function is an important factor in having a healthy body and by improving communication to various parts of your body, it enhances the innate healing power that resides inside you already.

Holistic Kinesiology looks for the original, underlying cause rather than focusing on the symptoms and considers every aspect of a person (physical, emotional, mental, nutritional and spiritual) to find the cause of imbalance or ill-health, because it is never just one thing.  The client plays an active role throughout the process and discussions continue throughout the session. The client remains fully clothed at all times lying comfortably on a massage table . 

The Kinesiology practitioner uses very gentle, non-invasive muscle testing to identify physical, chemical, emotional or energetic stresses affecting the client. It is a highly individualized processed and the gentle, relaxing techniques used to restore balance are identified by muscle testing in order to find the priority corrections for the client.  

Whilst sessions vary, common aspects might be the use of flower essences, essential oils, sound (tuning forks which relate to the meridians that are out of balance), muscle testing, holding acupressure points, counselling, emotional stress release techniques and the use of affirmations or visualisations.  Hypnotherapy or NLP techniques may also be used and discussions may be held regarding nutritional support and lifestyle. The energy flows of the body according to the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine are also taken into consideration.

Hyperton-X – physical muscle release

Hyperton-X is one of the most powerful tools used to release muscle tension, strengthen weak and painful muscles, to increase flexibility and sports performance. It is used by professional athletic trainers, coaches, physiotherapists, kinesiologists, massage therapists, naturopaths, chiropractors and osteopaths.   Muscles that have become “hypertonic” through injury or over-use are responsible for a lot of the imbalances that occur in the posture, nervous system, cerebro-spinal fluid flow and meridian energy flow.

Techniques are also used for pain and Emotional Stress Release, as well as to enhance physical and mental performance levels, both for learning and sports activities and to assist with learning difficulties.

Hypertonic Muscle Correction has been shown to have the following beneficial effects:

  • increase in Neuro-Muscular communication;
  • re-sets the proprioception mechanisms in the muscle spindles and tendon reflexes that may have been shocked due to injury or over-use;
  • improves circulation in both Vascular and Lymphatic systems;
  • releases inhibiting signals (interference) from the muscle that may cause a jamming effect in the sensory co-ordination areas of the brain – specifically the Common Integration Area (CIA) in the Logic Brain Cortex;
  • improves co-ordination through better muscle balance and enhanced cross-lateral stimulation in the Brain;
  • releases restricted muscles that effect Posture and improves normal flow of Cerebro-Spinal Fluid. (note: No Spinal adjustments are used)

Brain Gym 

Brain Gym is a simple, highly effective program based on movements, performed in a relaxed and fun way, which co-ordinate brain function and assist in maintaining a fine-tuned mind and body, global learning and comprehension. The Brain Gym movements can be easily learned and used in a variety of situations such as classrooms, the workplace or at home to achieve and maintain balance, and stress-free learning.

Keren is able to assist adults and children in learning more successfully and reducing stress around everyday activities at work, school and home.


What is involved in a Kinesiology session? 

The first session is usually 1½-2 hours. Subsequent sessions are usually 1-1½ hours but may be longer depending upon your needs.  It is a good idea to complete your Client Information Form prior to your session so that more time can be spent in discussion.

At the first session, Keren will take a detailed medical and lifestyle history and discuss the purpose of your visit and relevant issues so that there is a shared understanding of what you would like to work on in the session.   You will usually have a goal and the kinesiology session will ascertain the stresses in your body in relation to the goal, and what is preventing you from achieving it.  You do not need to have a specific goal to have a session – a Kinesiology balance will leave you feeling clearer, lighter and more focused.

Kinesiology is non-invasive and you remain fully clothed during a session, usually lying down.  Keren may assess individual muscles throughout the session and obtain feedback from an indicator muscle, usually the forearm, to ascertain stress patterns within the body.  These may manifest in many different ways and it may take more than one session to clear the layers of the stress pattern, depending on the issue.   You will experience great benefits after one session, however for permanent change a series of sessions is recommended.

A therapy session may include whatever modality is right for the client and Keren combines a range of techniques to balance the energetic and physical structures of the body based on the client’s individual needs.  Combining Kinesiology with Hypnothrapy, NLP or energy work can be very effective.

Applied Physiology, while based on the all-encompassing love principle, allows the practitioner to delve to the deepest core in the body of our clients by addressing the organ connection through the Chinese meridian system. In Traditional Chinese Medicine it is well known that the deepest issues are held in the tissues in our organs within our bodies. There are many correction techniques to enable the body to access balancing at a physical level as well a metaphysical level, body/mind connection eg; foot and hand reflexology, Acu-touch, tuning forks, essences, acupressure just to name a few”.

It may be worth noting these possible responses to therapy: Following a therapy session you may feel extremely light, clear and free. However it is not uncommon to experience physical, emotional or mental changes in response to the energy shifts as suppressed emotions are released. These are transient, lasting only a few days. Responses may include feeling unusually emotional, fluctuations in energy levels, tiredness, heightened sensitivity and sensations in the body, changes in sleep patterns or increased activity in bodily functions. After energy shifts subside you may experience a renewed sense of balance, energy and health.

Everyone is different, every session is different and the type and depth of work at each session can vary. Because of this it is possible to have varying responses following each session.
